Staff Back End Engineer (AI-Native)

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Back‑End Engineer to join Nerdy’s engineering team in LATAM. In this senior position you will define technical direction for high‑scale services, mentor engineers across squads, and shape the architecture that powers our AI‑enhanced learning products.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and act as the reference point for architectural standards.
• Lead solution design, making decisions on technologies, frameworks, and design patterns.
• Ensure delivery of high‑quality, maintainable, and scalable code through code reviews and mentorship.
• Drive reliability, performance, and security‑by‑default in all backend services.
• Collaborate with product, data, and AI teams to enable AI‑powered capabilities.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and operating high‑scale backend systems.
• Strong track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
• Passion for building AI‑native products and solving ambiguous problems with code.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑moving, results‑focused environment.
