Software Engineer - Apps, Test Infrastructure & Automation

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hiring a Software Engineer for an onsite position in Heredia, Costa Rica, working primarily from an HPE office. The role designs, develops and debugs software tools, frameworks and automation that accelerate the ASIC/SDK and post-silicon engineering lifecycle, and builds in-house traffic generation platforms, hardware reservation and provisioning systems, CI/CD pipelines and lab infrastructure services.

Key responsibilities

• Design enhancements, updates and programming changes for tools such as traffic generation frameworks, hardware reservation and provisioning tools, regression dashboards and lab automation services.
• Analyze design requirements and define coding, integration and testing activities based on the ASIC/SDK test architecture, including ASIC-based switch platforms.
• Write and execute test plans, protocols and documentation, and debug and resolve issues in code and its integration across switch, simulation and emulation platforms.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and PR-check/regression workflows integrated with source control and hardware reservation systems.
• Collaborate with management and internal partners (SDK, Post-Silicon, ASIC, Mechanical Engineering and Hardware) on tool design, project progress and issue resolution.
• Represent the engineering team on larger projects, support development environments, container-orchestrated servers and provisioning workflows, and mentor less experienced staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience.
• Ability to debug across software, networking and hardware boundaries, and to design software running on physical switches, virtual/simulation environments and hardware emulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and the local language.

Required skills

• Strong software development in Python and related scripting/automation languages; C is valued, Rust is a strong plus.
• DevOps tooling: CI/CD (Jenkins), Git/GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux servers.
• Test planning, debugging and test script/tool development.
• Familiarity with L2/L3 networking, traffic generation and packet flows, and ASIC/SDK or post-silicon test environments is a strong plus.
