Senior Backend Engineer – Fulfillment Systems

About the role

Backcountry is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own the architecture and evolution of its ecommerce fulfillment systems. You will drive hands‑on development for order and warehouse management, while leveraging AI toolsets to boost delivery speed and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support ecommerce fulfillment services, including order and warehouse management.
• Integrate AI toolsets to improve engineering throughput, quality, and reliability.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to deliver scalable, user‑focused features.
• Champion modern engineering practices such as clean architecture, unit testing, automation, performance optimization, and observability.
• Break down large projects into manageable chunks and communicate status, roadblocks, and dependencies.
• Influence architectural direction and propose improvements for performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Create high‑quality documentation, diagrams, and onboarding materials.
• Enhance monitoring, alerting, and incident response for mission‑critical systems.
• Identify and simplify legacy components to reduce technical debt.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience with a strong ecommerce background.
• Hands‑on experience using AI toolsets for productivity and development acceleration.
• Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, and design patterns.
