Purchasing Manager

About the role

The Purchasing Manager will lead all purchasing activities for Abbott’s Alajuela site, supporting the Electrophysiology business that develops breakthrough heart‑disease technologies. Working on‑site Monday to Friday, you will ensure material availability, control inventory, and drive cost‑saving initiatives across raw materials, indirect components and services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage supplier relationships and guarantee timely delivery of materials to meet production schedules.
• Design and execute inventory strategies that balance cost efficiency with production needs.
• Monitor and improve supplier performance while supporting sourcing strategy development.
• Lead Purchasing Price Variance (PPV) analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate inbound freight initiatives and related spend.
• Support new product introductions (NPI) and product validation processes.
• Provide regular updates to management on work‑in‑progress and material availability.

Required profile

• Proven experience in purchasing or procurement within a manufacturing or healthcare environment.
• Strong understanding of inventory management, PPV analysis and inbound logistics.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional cost‑saving projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• Experience with Purchasing Price Variance (PPV) management.
• Knowledge of inventory optimization techniques.
• Familiarity with inbound freight and logistics coordination.
