Packaging Development Engineer

About the role

Our client is looking for a Packaging Development Engineer to lead the creation and commercialization of innovative packaging across their beauty, personal care, cosmetics and CPG portfolio. You will own the full development lifecycle, from concept through launch, ensuring packaging meets quality, functionality, sustainability and brand standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end packaging development projects from concept to commercialization.
• Review and approve technical drawings and specifications for packaging components.
• Partner with suppliers to initiate and manage packaging development programs.
• Evaluate formula compatibility and select optimal packaging solutions.
• Design and oversee compatibility, functionality and transit testing.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies throughout development.
• Lead manufacturing line trials and troubleshoot packaging‑related issues.
• Drive packaging innovation, sustainability initiatives and cost‑optimization efforts.
• Serve as the primary technical packaging expert for internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Manage artwork approvals and packaging colour development processes.
• Maintain accurate component and finished‑goods specifications databases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of packaging development experience in Beauty, Personal Care, Cosmetics or CPG industries.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes and sustainability principles.
• Hands‑on experience with compatibility, functionality and transit testing.
• Ability to review technical drawings and create detailed packaging specifications.
• Excellent communication, project‑management and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience in startup or high‑growth environments is a strong plus.
