Case Manager – Voluntary Assisted Return (AVR)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking experienced Case Managers to support the Voluntary Assisted Return (AVR) programme for extra‑regional migrants in Costa Rica. The role involves providing comprehensive case management services to vulnerable individuals, ensuring protection, and facilitating safe and dignified return processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage individual cases of migrants eligible for AVR, from intake to exit.
• Coordinate with institutional, UN and local partners to deliver assistance and protection services.
• Document case information accurately in IOM systems and produce regular reports.
• Provide guidance and information to beneficiaries on their rights and available options.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of AVR interventions and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Professional degree in social sciences or a related field (minimum Bachelor’s).
• At least four years of experience working with vulnerable populations.
• Fluency in English (minimum B2 level); additional language skills (French, Arabic, Russian, Mandarin) are an advantage.
• Previous experience in case management within humanitarian settings.
• Proven ability to work with culturally diverse groups and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, writing and organizational abilities.
