Accountant - Hospitality (Remote)

About the role

Howard Financial, an outsourced accounting and finance firm founded in 2023, is looking for an Accountant to join its Hospitality team. You will own the daily and month-end accounting for full-service hotel clients that run rooms plus food and beverage outlets, in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The role sits under the review of a Senior Accountant or Controller.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post five daily income journals on a strict schedule: three by 10:00 a.m. EST and two by 2:00 p.m. EST for West Coast properties.
• Process large volumes of room, food and beverage and outlet transactions with speed and accuracy.
• Reconcile credit card activity across processors such as Fiserv (First Data), Elavon, American Express and FreedomPay against deposits and the general ledger.
• Reconcile daily revenue between the property management system (Oracle OPERA) and the financial system (Profit Sword).
• Support a five-day month-end close, including journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies independently, and communicate with hotel finance teams and property staff for missing documentation.
• Prepare reconciliations and schedules for review, flag process gaps and suggest improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in a high-volume transactional environment; hotel or hospitality accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Professional English (C1), written and spoken, for direct client communication.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work quickly under tight deadlines, and a curious, self-driven approach to solving problems.
• Flexibility to work extended hours during month-end close.

Required skills

• Hands-on credit card reconciliation across multiple processors.
• Month-end close, journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Preferred: Oracle OPERA, Profit Sword, PEP, and familiarity with the listed processors; prior outsourced accounting experience or CPA/CA certification in progress.
