Secondary English Teacher – International School

About the role

The Secondary English Teacher will deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction to students from early secondary through senior year at Country Day, an international school in Costa Rica. The role includes planning and teaching core curriculum, and may involve Advanced Placement (AP) courses, within a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver standards‑aligned ELA lessons that motivate and challenge learners.
• Prepare and assess student work using a variety of formative and summative tools.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and linguistic needs of the class.
• Integrate technology to enrich learning experiences.
• Monitor student progress, maintain records, and communicate regularly with families.
• Contribute to extracurricular activities, clubs, and school events.
• Participate in professional development and collaborative planning with colleagues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with a valid teaching certificate/license in the relevant content area.
• Minimum two years of secondary‑school teaching experience, preferably in an English‑language environment.
• Strong command of English; native speaker preferred.
• Experience with AP curriculum is an asset.

Required skills

• Knowledge of U.S. K‑12 curriculum, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation ELA standards.
• Ability to design differentiated instruction and varied assessments.
