Secondary English Teacher – International School

About the role

The Secondary English Teacher will deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction to secondary students at Country Day School, an international campus in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The role includes the possibility of teaching Advanced Placement courses and contributes to the school’s mission of fostering academic excellence and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards‑aligned ELA lessons, incorporating the Common Core and AP/Pre‑AP curricula.
• Design and implement varied assessments to monitor student progress.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of each student.
• Integrate technology to enhance classroom learning experiences.
• Maintain regular communication with students, families, and colleagues.
• Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and school events.
• Engage in continuous professional development and collaborative team work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with a valid teaching certificate/license in the relevant content area.
• Minimum two years of secondary‑school teaching experience.
• Strong command of English; native speaker preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with U.S. K‑12 curriculum, Common Core State Standards, and AP English standards.

Required skills

• Advanced Placement teaching experience (preferred).
