Senior Controller – Hospitality Portfolio

About the role

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Controller to lead the financial operations of its hospitality‑focused client portfolio. You will partner with the Accounting Director to transform messy books into reliable, timely reports for hotels, restaurants, and multi‑unit operators.

Key responsibilities

• Own the month‑end close for a defined set of clients, reconciling accounts, reviewing journal entries, and delivering clean financial statements on schedule.
• Prepare accurate monthly P&L statements, cash‑flow summaries, and departmental reports tailored to hospitality operators, highlighting variances and actionable insights.
• Manage complex payroll structures for tipped employees, multiple departments, and seasonal staff, ensuring all filings are complete and on time.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, communicating clearly and setting expectations to prevent issues.
• Document workflows, build checklists and SOPs, and reduce reliance on institutional knowledge through process improvement.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in the hospitality industry (hotels, restaurants, or multi‑unit food & beverage).
• Strong command of GAAP and multi‑entity accounting.
• Detail‑oriented with a proactive mindset—identifying and fixing issues before they grow.
• Excellent written communication and the ability to know when to escalate.
