Cost Accounting Manager

About the role

The Cost Accounting Manager will lead Thermo Fisher Scientific's Costa Rica Costing Team within the Global Cost Accounting Center of Excellence. Based in San Jose, this role partners with business units to ensure accurate inventory valuation, drive the monthly close process, and support the annual cost roll.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of at least four professionals to execute all monthly‑close tasks assigned to the Costa Rica Costing Team.
• Perform journal entry approvals, reconciliation reviews, and ensure timely completion of quarterly and yearly close activities.
• Address technical accounting issues during month‑end and quarter‑end, maintaining compliance with US GAAP.
• Develop and maintain data reporting and analytics using ERP systems, Cognos, and other reporting tools.
• Support senior managers and the Finance Director with cost‑roll data analysis and financial reporting.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, presenting financial information clearly.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• 8+ years of experience in cost accounting or related finance roles.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing a finance team.
• Advanced English proficiency (B2+).
• Experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems, specifically SAP and JD Edwards.
• Experience using Cognos for reporting and analytics.
• Strong data reporting and analytical capabilities.
• Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards.
