Vet Nurse - Orthopedic and Neurosurgery

About the role

Fixus Ortopedia y Neurocirugía Veterinaria de Costa Rica is a specialized veterinary clinic focused on neurosurgery and orthopedics for dogs and cats, offering advanced diagnostic and surgical care for complex conditions. It is looking for a full-time, on-site Vet Nurse in the San José Metropolitan Area to support veterinarians during procedures and help pet families.

Key responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures
• Prepare operating rooms and manage surgical instruments
• Support anesthesiology protocols and patient monitoring
• Care for animals before and after surgery, and administer medications as directed
• Maintain accurate medical records and communicate care instructions clearly with pet families
• Perform basic laboratory procedures and keep the clinical environment clean and safe
• Collaborate with the veterinary team to uphold high standards of patient care and safety

Required profile

• Relevant veterinary nursing certification, diploma or degree, or equivalent practical experience
• Ability to work on-site in a fast-paced clinical setting, including occasional evenings or weekends
• Experience in orthopedic or neurosurgical settings is an advantage but not required

Required skills

• Veterinary nursing skills, including support for surgical procedures and post-operative care
• Knowledge of anesthesiology principles, including vital sign monitoring and assistance with anesthesia administration
• Foundational laboratory skills such as sample collection, basic tests and accurate documentation
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to follow clinical protocols and safety procedures
• Clear, respectful communication and teamwork in a multidisciplinary setting
