Technical Support Engineer Intern – Wireless Technologies

About the role

The Technical Support Engineer Intern will join HPE's Wireless Technical Support organization, assisting customers, partners, and internal teams with troubleshooting and documenting wireless networking issues related to Mist cloud‑managed solutions and access points.

Key responsibilities

• Assist engineers in analyzing and troubleshooting wireless incidents, including access point, cloud platform, client connectivity, authentication, and performance issues.
• Collect and review device logs, event timelines, configuration details, packet captures and basic network traces.
• Identify potential causes such as coverage, interference, roaming, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, or authentication problems.
• Reproduce reported problems in lab or simulated environments and perform basic configuration validation.
• Use technical support tools, diagnostic utilities, dashboards and knowledge bases; document steps, findings and solutions.
• Contribute to internal documentation, troubleshooting guides and knowledge‑base articles; escalate complex issues to senior engineers.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, IT, Telecommunications, Networking or related technical field.
• Basic understanding of computer networks, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, IPv4/IPv6, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, subnets and authentication concepts.
• Strong analytical, organizational and time‑management skills; English proficiency at B2 level or higher.

Required skills

• Fundamental networking concepts (Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, IP, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, subnets).
• Wi‑Fi knowledge: SSIDs, 2.4 GHz/5 GHz/6 GHz bands, channels, signal strength, interference, roaming.
• Command‑line tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup.
• Basic scripting or programming, preferably Python.
• Familiarity with Linux, cloud platforms, and packet analysis tools like Wireshark.
