About the role
The Switching Technical Support Engineer Intern will join HPE's Switching Technical Support organization, assisting with investigation and troubleshooting of EX switching products and related enterprise networking technologies. This onsite role is designed for university students seeking hands‑on experience in enterprise networking.
Key responsibilities
- Assist Technical Support Engineers in investigating cases involving Juniper/Aruba technologies.
- Troubleshoot Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 connectivity issues, including VLANs, trunking, STP, LACP, routing, DHCP, DNS, and authentication.
- Collect and analyze technical information from customers, internal teams, and lab environments.
- Reproduce problems in a lab or simulated network, using diagnostic tools and commands.
- Document case summaries, troubleshooting records, and escalation information.
- Participate in team meetings, technical training, and knowledge‑sharing activities.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, IT, Telecommunications, Networking or a related field.
- Basic academic or practical knowledge of networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP).
- Strong logical reasoning, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher.
Required skills
- Understanding of VLANs, trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP/RSTP/MSTP), LACP, VRRP, QoS/CoS, 802.1X, RADIUS.
- Basic routing concepts (default gateways, OSPF, BGP fundamentals).
- Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools: ping, traceroute, arp, nslookup/dig, packet capture.
- Exposure to Wireshark or similar packet‑analysis tools.
- Basic Linux/Unix command‑line experience.
- Introductory scripting knowledge, preferably Python; exposure to Perl, Shell scripting, REST APIs is a plus.
- Awareness of networking certifications such as Network+, CCNA, JNCIA (optional).
