Substation Electrical Engineer - Power

About the role

Ulteig is looking for a Substation Electrical Engineer to lead technical design and implementation for renewable and utility power projects. The role involves applying engineering standards to complex substation systems and supporting the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Make design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations, relay automation equipment and associated drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations, provide technical guidance to other engineers, and support special projects or new initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited); Master’s degree a plus.
• 7+ years of engineering experience, with proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Authorization to work legally in Costa Rica.

Required skills

• Substation protection and control design following industry standards.
• Creation and review of design drawings: one‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel elevations.
• AC & DC substation studies and knowledge of substation apparatus equipment.
• Basic relay settings, on‑site commissioning support, and familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
