Software Engineer 2 – Azure Databases

About the role

Microsoft is looking for a Software Engineer 2 to join the Azure Databases team. You will help build next‑generation data platforms such as Azure HorizonDB and Elastic Clusters for Azure Database for PostgreSQL, driving performance, scalability and AI integration.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud‑native PostgreSQL services with API‑driven development.
• Collaborate across Azure database offerings to deliver cross‑product features.
• Instrument telemetry and experimentation pipelines to enable data‑driven decision making.
• Contribute to the Client Experience layer, improving portals, CLI, and APIs.
• Participate in the evolution of platform‑oriented functions and LLM‑based insights.

Required profile

• Mid‑level software engineer with experience in cloud services.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to work in a fast‑growing environment.
• Passion for building reliable, high‑performance data systems.

Required skills

• PostgreSQL
• Microsoft Azure services (e.g., Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics)
• Cloud‑native development and API design
• Telemetry and experimentation frameworks
• Experience with large language models (LLMs) is a plus
