Sheet Metal Mechanic – Aviation Maintenance

About the role

The Sheet Metal Mechanic will troubleshoot malfunctions and perform repairs on a wide range of aircraft structures, supporting both expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions for the U.S. Department of State Air Wing.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet‑metal components using hand tools and mechanical/hydro‑mechanical tooling.
• Repair aircraft skin, nacelles, cowlings, and structural components, ensuring compliance with OEM, military, and DoS manuals.
• Maintain bench stock and consumables, and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and modification instructions.
• Provide host‑nation training, oversight of mechanics, and develop on‑the‑job training modules.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED with at least 4 years of experience in tactical aircraft maintenance, modification, and repair.
• U.S. Department of State Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT) eligibility.
• Spanish Level 2 (Listening and Reading) for LATAM operations.
• Preferred FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificates and military tactical aircraft maintenance training.

Required skills

• Proficiency in fabrication, cold working, flap peening, jacking, and shoring.
• Hands‑on experience with welding (gas and heli‑arc), lathes, milling machines, saws, drilling presses, and precision measuring tools (protractors, calipers, pitch gauges).
• Ability to read and interpret OEM, military, and DoS manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
