Senior Local Buyer

About the role

The Senior Local Buyer will lead product procurement and negotiation activities for PriceSmart, ensuring optimal pricing, margins, and inventory levels across all clubs. This role collaborates closely with the Regional Buyer and local purchasing teams to drive market competitiveness and partner satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Manage negotiations and purchases with the Regional Buyer, covering product categorization, sales terms, discounts, freight refund policies, inventory, gross margin, and selling price in line with pricing strategies.
• Innovate the commercialization of new items to keep the market competitive and support partner satisfaction programs.
• Coordinate with the Regional Office to verify appropriate item categories for each department and club, ensuring alignment of local buying staff with the overall plan.
• Achieve global sales targets, increase gross margin (both dollar amount and percentage), and maintain local product inventories within budgeted levels and required timelines.

Required profile

• Advanced proficiency in English.
• University degree in Business Administration or a related field.
• At least seven years of experience in a similar purchasing or procurement role, preferably within a retail environment.
• Knowledge of Windows operating systems and AS400.
• Experience managing suppliers with solid financial and commercial understanding.
• Background working across multiple product categories.
• Own a vehicle.
