Senior Data Scientist – Generative AI & Agentic Systems

About the role

Roche is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its Global Analytics and Technology Center of Excellence in San José, Costa Rica. You will design and deploy cutting‑edge agentic capabilities and enterprise Generative AI applications, moving from problem framing through to production deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Architect end‑to‑end multi‑agent applications, retrieval‑layer solutions and foundational AI capabilities.
• Build and optimise advanced Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector/graph databases, reranking algorithms and chunking strategies.
• Write clean, tested Python code, manage APIs, enforce version control and set up CI/CD pipelines for Generative AI systems.
• Implement LLMOps evaluation harnesses, prompt/version management, cost/latency optimisation and token economics monitoring.
• Provide strategic AI consulting to global stakeholders, advising on when to use GenAI versus classical ML or deterministic methods.
• Mentor team members on agentic flow design and collaborate with Product Owners to align technical execution with user experience.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML or a related quantitative field.
• 7+ years of professional experience building enterprise Generative AI products and agentic workflows.
• Current residence in Costa Rica or valid work authorization for San José.

Required skills

• Deep technical mastery of LLMs, vector databases, graph databases, reranking algorithms and agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AWS AgentCore).
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills, API development and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
• Experience with MLOps/LLMOps monitoring platforms and RAG architecture design.
• Familiarity with agent protocols (MCP, A2A), multimodal AI applications and frontend/UI tools such as Figma, React and Angular.
