Senior Backend Engineer (Rust) – Remote

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross‑functional squad building a high‑throughput data platform for a global financial‑intelligence client. The role is remote‑first, with the candidate based in Costa Rica, and focuses almost entirely on backend development using Rust.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Rust‑based microservices and APIs.
• Own large workstreams end‑to‑end, turning ambiguous requirements into concrete deliverables.
• Collaborate with a senior architect and contribute technical input to design discussions.
• Extend existing AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and container orchestration.
• Work closely with a squad of engineers, QA, product, UX, and DevOps to ensure quality, performance, and observability.
• Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and proactively surface blockers.

Required profile

• 3–7 years of experience delivering production software.
• Strong, demonstrable Rust expertise (non‑negotiable).
• Hands‑on experience with event‑driven or microservices architectures.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with AWS services and cloud‑native infrastructure.
• Comfortable with Kubernetes and containerised deployments.
• Effective communicator in a distributed, international team.
