Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting & Compliance

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead the day‑to‑day accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strict regulatory compliance. You will play a key part in maintaining robust internal controls while supporting strategic financial planning and decision‑making across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, bank reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and general ledger maintenance.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local regulations.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end closing processes, ensuring timely reconciliations and documentation.
• Oversee tax compliance, including filings, electronic invoicing, VAT declarations and statutory reporting.
• Coordinate payment processing, supplier payments, employee reimbursements and banking transactions while adhering to internal approval procedures.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and addressing audit findings.
• Produce financial reports, forecasts and analyses to aid business decisions.
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies and applicable regulations.
• Assist with consolidation, project accounting, budget monitoring and cost allocation.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, systems and workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of Costa Rican tax regulations and statutory reporting.
• Proven experience with month‑end/year‑end close, audits, tax compliance and internal controls.
• Advanced proficiency with SAP or a comparable ERP system.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Intermediate English proficiency.
• Experience in multinational, NGO or donor‑funded environments is highly desirable.
