R&D Technical Lead

About the role

We are looking for an R&D Technical Lead to drive execution of complex product support and lifecycle initiatives within our global medical device organization. Based in Coyol, Alajuela, you will connect cross‑functional teams, ensure clarity, and keep key projects moving forward with purpose.

Key responsibilities

• Lead execution of product support and lifecycle initiatives across a diverse R&D portfolio.
• Define and maintain structured execution plans, including milestones, dependencies, and critical paths.
• Develop technical strategies for design changes, line extensions, and OEM programs.
• Act as the primary integrator across R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
• Drive alignment on scope, priorities, and execution approach with diverse stakeholders.
• Identify risks, trade‑offs, and constraints to enable timely, informed decision‑making.
• Ensure initiatives progress with accountability, clarity, and urgency.
• Support the development of scalable processes and consistent ways of working.
• Partner with technical and functional leaders to meet performance, compliance, and business objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (advanced degree preferred).
• 5–8+ years of experience leading complex, cross‑functional technical initiatives in a regulated environment.
• Advanced English proficiency with strong verbal communication and the ability to lead global technical discussions.
• Experience in product lifecycle management, design changes, or sustaining engineering.
• Strong understanding of regulatory and quality standards such as FDA, ISO 13485, and MDR.
• Proven ability to translate ambiguity into clear, executable plans.
• Experience working with global manufacturing and supply‑chain partners.
• Ability to influence without formal authority and manage multiple priorities.
