Principal Software Engineering Manager

About the role

Ulteig is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Manager in Costa Rica to lead a high‑performing team of full‑stack engineers building enterprise‑grade, Azure‑based solutions. This hands‑on leadership position blends people management, technical strategy, and direct contribution to complex projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop software engineers, creating growth paths and technical leadership opportunities.
• Translate departmental objectives and product goals into team roadmaps, staffing plans and measurable performance targets.
• Drive end‑to‑end delivery across architecture, design, coding, testing, security, deployment, observability and operational support.
• Provide technical oversight while contributing to high‑priority initiatives through code reviews, design reviews and troubleshooting.
• Establish and enforce standards for code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, telemetry, documentation and technical debt management.
• Manage team capacity, resource allocation, budgets and contractor utilization to balance delivery, innovation and technical debt reduction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including leadership of development teams.
• Proven ability to plan workforce, hire talent and build inclusive, high‑performing teams.
• Strong communication skills in English (CEFR B2‑C1) and legal authorization to work in Costa Rica.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure services (Application Insights, Entra ID, Key Vault, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, Event Hubs).
• Advanced development with C#.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front‑end frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Experience with automated testing tools (xUnit, Cypress) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Design and implementation of APIs, event‑driven integration, tiered or distributed architectures.
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging and production support capabilities.
