Plant SCADA Engineer

About the role

Ulteig is seeking a Plant SCADA Engineer for its Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The role involves designing, programming, installing, and testing automation systems that integrate multiple sub‑systems for renewable and power utility clients.

Key responsibilities

• Review, create, maintain, and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and project documentation.
• Develop SCADA point lists, RTU programs, HMIs, meter programs and calculations.
• Program, install, troubleshoot, test and commission RTUs, RTACs, PACs and HMIs.
• Design site network and communication architectures compliant with client and regulatory requirements.
• Lead FAT and SAT testing, mentor junior staff and ensure quality and timely project delivery.
• Maintain client relationships and provide regular progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
• Authorization to work permanently in Costa Rica and ability to travel 15‑20%.
• Willingness to work hybrid schedule, occasional night shifts, weekends and on‑call as needed.
• Valid Costa Rica driver’s license and strong English communication skills (B2‑C1).

Required skills

• SCADA systems (WonderWare, Ignition, web‑based GUIs).
• Remote Terminal Units (SEL‑RTAC, Modicon M580) and Programmable Automation Controllers.
• Communication protocols: DNP3, Modbus.
• Network design and implementation (Cisco, Ruggedcom, SEL firewalls, Ethernet switches).
• Tools: Putty, Wireshark.
• Understanding of 3‑phase power generation control, Automatic Voltage Regulation, and voltage regulation standards.
• CCNA or similar networking certification is a plus.
• Inductive Automation Ignition Core/Gold certification is desirable.
