About the role
The Manufacturing Engineer I supports Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) manufacturing site in Alajuela, Costa Rica. You will develop and implement cost‑effective processes, ensure equipment reliability, and drive continuous improvement while meeting safety, quality, and production targets.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily support to manufacturing activities to achieve safety, quality, cost, and production goals.
- Maintain KPI monitoring systems (yield, non‑conforming material, lead time) and collaborate with functional teams to address adverse trends.
- Understand product cost components and use this knowledge to identify risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate equipment calibration, maintenance, and repairs, requesting special services when needed.
- Execute installation and validation of new or existing production lines, covering equipment, process, product, and test‑method validations in line with regulatory requirements.
- Estimate validation costs and ensure they are budgeted within the financial cycle.
- Select and purchase equipment/fixtures to meet production needs, address obsolescence, or expand line capacity.
- Investigate non‑conforming products using root‑cause problem‑solving techniques, implement controls, and define preventive actions.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (or participation in Abbott’s internship program with completed coursework).
- 0‑2 years of manufacturing or process experience.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to travel and intermediate command of English.
- PE license is a plus.
