Learning Support Specialist – Middle & High School

About the role

The Learning Support Specialist at Country Day School drives inclusive education for middle and high school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities. Working on a sustainable campus in Alajuela, the specialist blends direct student support with system‑wide leadership to embed Universal Design for Learning, Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support, and Response to Intervention across the school.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and monitor individualized support plans for students.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, families, and external providers on Student Learning Profile (SLP) teams and transition planning.
• Lead professional‑learning sessions to build school‑wide capacity in UDL, MTSS, RTI, and differentiated instruction.
• Develop and sustain inclusive protocols, data‑driven decision‑making processes, and continuous‑improvement cycles.
• Provide direct instructional support and coaching to classroom teachers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Learning Support, or a related field.
• Valid teaching certificate or license.
• Minimum two years of experience supporting middle or high school students with mild to moderate exceptionalities.
• Demonstrated experience advancing inclusive practices such as UDL, MTSS, RTI, and differentiated instruction.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) frameworks.
• Experience with Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) models.
• Ability to analyze student data to inform instructional decisions.
