Coordinator Peace Education and Assistant Professor

About the role

Coordinate the Peace Education Programme and contribute to teaching and research at the University for Peace. The position combines programme leadership with academic duties in peace education and gender and peacebuilding.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the Peace Education Programme in consultation with the Head of Department, overseeing its development and student support.
• Develop and teach 12 credits in Peace Education and Gender and Peacebuilding, including possible online delivery.
• Advise and supervise students, overseeing six theses and six internships or capstone projects.
• Support academic development and quality assurance, serving on committees and contributing to policies.
• Conduct research aligned with UPEACE’s mission, producing at least one peer‑reviewed article or book chapter per year and acting as examiner for relevant PhD theses.
• Engage in outreach activities and create academic events that enrich the university community.

Required profile

• PhD in Peace Education (or a doctorate in Peace Studies with relevant experience in peace pedagogies and praxis).
• University‑level teaching experience in Peace Education, Conflict and Peace Studies, and Gender, with ability to teach at postgraduate level.
• Knowledge of the United Nations system and capacity to conduct research.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• Experience facilitating multicultural groups.

Required skills

• Knowledge of peace pedagogies, restorative approaches and socio‑emotional learning methodologies.
• Familiarity with gender concepts, gender mainstreaming, feminist and decolonial theories.
• Strong teaching, advising and supervisory skills using participatory and innovative methods.
• Effective networking, teamwork, computer proficiency and experience working with diverse student and staff populations.
• Commitment to the values and ethics of the University for Peace.
