Case Manager and Psychosocial Support for Assisted Voluntary Return

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Costa Rica seeks experienced professionals to provide case management and psychosocial support to migrants participating in the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑screening and psychosocial assessments, gather eligibility information and identify protection needs.
• Enter and track case data in MIMOSA, Kobo and Excel, ensuring accurate and timely records.
• Coordinate travel arrangements, purchase airline tickets and accompany beneficiaries at the airport.
• Provide psychological first aid, design individual and group‑based support plans, and refer to medical or specialised services as needed.
• Collaborate with translators, IOM offices in origin countries and other stakeholders to ensure smooth return processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology (or related field) and registration with the Professional Association of Psychologists.
• Minimum four years of experience working with vulnerable populations, preferably in humanitarian case‑management or protection settings.
• Fluency in English (B2 level); additional language skills (French, Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, Portuguese) are an advantage.
• Strong analytical, organisational and multitasking abilities, with experience coordinating with UN and institutional partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MIMOSA case‑management system.
• Data entry and analysis using Kobo and Microsoft Excel.
• Psychological First Aid and psychosocial support techniques.
