Tooling Engineer – Manufacturing & Tool Room

About the role

We are looking for a Tooling Engineer to join our Alajuela site, supporting the tool room and manufacturing operations for medical devices. The role combines tool room management, design assistance, and hands‑on maintenance of molds and extrusion equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and maintain the tool room, including documentation, drawings and spare‑parts inventory.
• Assist in the design and drafting of tooling components under supervision of senior engineers.
• Coordinate tool repairs and preventative maintenance with internal and external vendors.
• Order and quote new tooling components for projects.
• Integrate spare‑parts data into SAP and other inventory systems.
• Develop SOPs and work instructions for tooling operations.
• Document tooling changes and repair histories using SAP modules.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis and propose improvements, supporting 5S and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Interface with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain and Tooling personnel to prioritise needs.
• Provide hands‑on support for basic injection‑mold and extrusion maintenance and repair.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or related engineering field.
• Proven experience in tool design, fixtures and mold‑making environments.
• Strong measurement skills using micrometers, indicators and other precision tools.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and CAD files.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and SAP usage.
