Switching Technical Support Engineer Internship

About the role

HPE is looking for a Switching Technical Support Engineer Intern to join its Switching Technical Support organization. The intern will assist in investigating and troubleshooting technical issues related to EX switching products and enterprise networking technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Technical Support Engineers with case investigations involving Juniper/Aruba technologies.
• Support troubleshooting of Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 connectivity issues, including VLANs, trunking, STP, LACP, routing, DHCP, DNS, and authentication.
• Collect and organize technical information from customers, internal teams, and lab environments.
• Review device configurations, logs, event messages, and network topology data.
• Reproduce problems in a lab or simulated network and use basic diagnostic tools.
• Prepare case summaries, troubleshooting records, and escalation documentation.
• Participate in team meetings, training, case reviews, and knowledge‑sharing activities.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, IT, Telecommunications, Networking or a related technical field.
• Basic academic or practical knowledge of computer networking concepts (Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, ARP, ICMP, TCP/UDP, DNS, DHCP).
• Strong logical reasoning, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher.

Required skills

• Understanding of VLANs, trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP/RSTP/MSTP), Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP).
• Basic Layer 2/Layer 3 troubleshooting, routing basics, DHCP/DNS, authentication, and access control.
• Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, arp, nslookup/dig, and basic packet‑capture concepts.
• Ability to read network diagrams and technical documentation.
• Basic scripting or programming knowledge, preferably Python.
• Exposure to Linux/Unix command line, Wireshark or similar packet‑analysis tools.
