Senior Network Operations Engineer

About the role

Join Akamai’s 24x7 Network Operations Engineering team as a Senior Network Operations Engineer. You will help maintain and improve the reliability, performance, and availability of large‑scale network infrastructure that powers our CDN and cloud compute platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve routing and switching faults across extensive network environments.
• Troubleshoot backbone, transport, and fabric topology issues to ensure optimal performance.
• Lead and support resolution of critical technical incidents, providing expertise during incident response and post‑mortem reviews.
• Design, develop, and maintain alerts, runbooks, dashboards, and monitoring tools for enhanced fault detection.
• Create and maintain operational automation, tools, and technical documentation.
• Install, configure, maintain, and optimize routers and switches.

Required profile

• High School or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience operating large‑scale network environments.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and customer service skills.
• Experience with service‑provider networks and Internet routing protocols.

Required skills

• IP networking, routing and switching (CCNA, JNCIA preferred).
• Protocols: BGP, IS‑IS, OSPF, MPLS.
• SQL query writing and troubleshooting.
• Linux/Unix systems and associated tools.
• Routers, switches, alerts, runbooks, dashboards, monitoring tools.
• Automation and technical documentation.
