Senior Java Software Engineer – Remote

About the role

Coforge is looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialized in Java to join its remote team in Costa Rica. You will design, build, and maintain high‑performance backend services that power AI‑enabled products and large‑scale distributed systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
• Build and optimise RESTful APIs, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to integrate AI APIs, LLM workflows, and other cloud‑native services.
• Contribute to system architecture, performance tuning, and continuous improvement in an Agile environment.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold software quality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience delivering production‑grade systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Expert‑level proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Gradle, and microservices.
• Hands‑on experience with REST APIs and API lifecycle management.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Experience designing distributed, fault‑tolerant systems and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with AI‑driven requirements, LLM‑enabled workflows, and integration of AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
• Exposure to asynchronous messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ), GraphQL, API gateways, and hybrid API ecosystems.
