Senior Internal Auditor – SOX Compliance

About the role

Smartsheet is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to lead SOX compliance activities across the organization. The role will support the internal audit team in assessing risk, testing controls, and ensuring adherence to US GAAP and Sarbanes‑Oxley requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and follow‑up on internal audit engagements, including scoping and reporting.
• Serve as the primary liaison between external auditors and business units for SOX field work.
• Lead workstreams to maintain and complete SOX documentation and control testing on schedule.
• Perform detailed testing of controls, analyzing accounting records, reports, data flows, and flowcharts.
• Collaborate with business teams to resolve identified internal‑control issues promptly.
• Prepare and present audit findings, results, and improvement recommendations to Accounting, IT, and senior leadership.
• Provide expertise on entity‑level controls, key reports, and other audit considerations.
• Participate in ad‑hoc internal audit and compliance projects across functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Active CPA, CISA, or CIA certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of public‑accounting or internal‑audit experience.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX internal‑control frameworks.
• Excellent analytical and project‑management abilities.
• Residency in Costa Rica.
