About the role
The Senior Automation Engineer will design, develop, integrate, validate, and continuously improve automated and semi‑automated manufacturing equipment. This hands‑on role spans controls, robotics, machine vision, mechanical tooling, and process validation within regulated environments such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive.
Key responsibilities
- Design and integrate automation solutions from semi‑automated equipment to fully automated production lines.
- Program PLCs and PC‑based control systems and integrate robotics for assembly, inspection, and handling.
- Develop 2D/3D machine vision solutions using Cognex, Keyence, OpenCV and validate inspection performance.
- Create fixtures, nests, gauges, and tooling in SolidWorks, CREO, or AutoCAD and support rapid prototyping.
- Define, optimize, and validate automated manufacturing processes, writing IQ/OQ/PQ protocols under ISO 13485/GMP.
- Lead root‑cause investigations, apply DOE, SPC, FMEA, lean techniques to improve throughput and reduce scrap.
- Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and external integrators to transfer equipment into production.
- Contribute to cost estimates, technology evaluations, and technical planning.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Biomedical, or Software Engineering.
- 5–10 years of hands‑on automation engineering experience, preferably in regulated or precision manufacturing.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical communication skills.
- High independence, accountability, and ability to work collaboratively.
Required skills
- PLC programming and PC‑based control system development.
- Robotics integration for assembly, inspection, and handling.
- Machine vision development (Cognex, Keyence, OpenCV).
- CAD design of tooling and fixtures (SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD).
- Statistical tools: DOE, SPC, FMEA, Lean manufacturing.
- Validation protocol development (IQ/OQ/PQ) in ISO 13485/GMP environments.
- Data visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, Smartsheet (desirable).
