Secondary English Teacher (Grades 9-12) – Alajuela

About the role

Country Day School, part of the Nord Anglia family, is seeking a passionate Secondary English Teacher to join its vibrant community in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality English Language Arts instruction to secondary students, fostering academic excellence and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging ELA lessons aligned with US curriculum, Common Core, and AP standards.
• Design and implement varied assessments, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
• Integrate technology to enhance classroom learning experiences.
• Monitor and document student progress, providing regular feedback to students and families.
• Contribute to extracurricular programs, clubs, and school events.
• Participate in collaborative planning and ongoing professional development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with a valid teaching certificate/license in the relevant content area.
• Minimum two years of secondary school teaching experience.
• Strong command of English; native speaker preferred.
• Familiarity with K‑12 U.S. curriculum, Common Core State Standards, and AP/Pre‑AP ELA standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide a criminal background check from country of origin and recent residence countries.
