Manufacturing Technician 3 - Turno 2 Joint Repair (Alajuela)

About the role

Smith+Nephew is hiring a Manufacturing Technician 3 (Turno 2) in Alajuela, Costa Rica, to provide technical support to medical device production lines. The role focuses on automation, process improvements and business-driven initiatives, working with R&D, Quality and Automation teams. It is a T3 level position (internal use only).

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run equipment, fixture and process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) and process validations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and coordinate technical support for tooling and equipment.
• Work closely with Quality on specifications, raw materials, blueprints and final product requirements.
• Analyze technical issues and resolve product or component problems.
• Maintain MPIs, BOMs, NCRs and routers in the Agile system.
• Follow GMP, 5S, Lean Manufacturing and CAPA requirements, and comply with safety, EHS and confidentiality rules.

Required profile

• High school degree completed.
• Internal applicants: more than 50% of an engineering career or technician degree, plus 2 years of production/sustaining experience at S+N.
• External applicants: more than 50% of an engineering career and 2 years of experience in medical device manufacturing or automated systems.
• Relevant engineering field (electronic, mechatronics, electromechanical, materials or chemical).
• Intermediate English (50% conversational, 70% written and reading).

Required skills

• MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Minitab and design software such as SolidWorks RA; Cognex preferred.
• GD&T, GMP, 5S, Lean Manufacturing and Value Stream Mapping.
