Finance Assistant – San Jose

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Finance Assistant to support the resources management functions of its San Jose office. Working under the Chief of Mission and the Senior Finance Associate, the role contributes to the efficient handling of financial operations in a multicultural, humanitarian environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial and resources management tasks for the San Jose office.
• Review payment requests, vendor documentation, claims and supporting documents for accuracy, completeness, authorization and compliance with established procedures.
• Assist with accounting, payments, payroll, petty‑cash handling and financial reporting in line with internal controls.
• Apply International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) to transactions, reconciliations and reports.
• Collaborate with headquarters and administrative centres to ensure consistent financial practices.

Required profile

• High school diploma with four years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field with two years of professional experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with Oracle is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to organise paperwork methodically, and discretion when handling confidential information.
• Previous experience in an international humanitarian, non‑governmental or governmental organization is beneficial.
