Escalation Engineer

About the role

The Escalation Engineer provides advanced technical troubleshooting and resolution for complex enterprise and data‑center switching issues across Aruba AOS‑CX and AOS‑S platforms. The role is hybrid, requiring on‑site work about two days per week at the HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Own complex L2/L3 switching cases escalated from L1 TAC, perform deep‑dive fault isolation and lead Sev‑1/Sev‑2 incident resolution.
• Provide executive‑ready updates during high‑impact outages and ensure strict SLA compliance.
• Conduct root‑cause analysis, develop workarounds, and collaborate with L3 Engineering.
• Mentor L1 engineers, review case quality and participate in bug scrub and feature readiness meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or IT.
• 2‑4 years of experience in enterprise switching TAC, network engineering or data‑center/campus networking.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to communicate at executive level during outages.

Required skills

• Aruba AOS‑CX and AOS‑S switching platforms, VSX, VSF, stacking and Aruba Central.
• Layer 2 protocols (STP, RSTP, MSTP, LACP, MAC flapping, QinQ, Private VLANs, port security, storm control).
• Layer 3 protocols (OSPF, BGP, VRFs, inter‑VLAN routing, policy‑based routing, ECMP, ARP suppression, IP SLA, BFD).
• High‑availability designs (VSX peer‑keepalive, ISL, active‑active forwarding, ISSU).
• System performance analysis (CPU, memory, TCAM, QoS, packet drops, MTU, transceiver/DAC interoperability).
• Debugging tools: Linux log analysis, core‑dump interpretation, Wireshark, basic Python for log parsing.
