Director of Finance and Operations (Remote)

About the role

Blacksmith Agency is a fully remote US digital agency of 30 to 40 people running websites, SEO, paid media and branding. It is hiring a Director of Finance and Operations who owns finance end to end and the related people operations, working directly with ownership and a fractional CFO. The position is full-time and remote, open to Latin America or South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Finance: keep the books clean with the bookkeeper, run the monthly close, manage cash, payables, receivables and controls
• FP&A: build revenue, margin and cash flow models and forecasts, track monthly actuals versus forecast, unit economics and the capacity model that tells when to hire
• People operations: handle onboarding and offboarding for a remote team across several countries, manage contracts, set up payroll and control access in and out
• Give ownership plain answers on where the business stands and what to do about it

Required profile

• Has run finance independently before: built the models, owned the close and answered to ownership for the numbers
• Independent and driven, able to work without a checklist handed to them
• Full-time as their only job, with substantial overlap with US business hours
• Services or agency finance experience is a plus

Required skills

• Strong Google Sheets or Excel
• QuickBooks or Xero
• Clear written and spoken English
