Director of Billing – Lead Billing Operations

About the role

The Director of Billing will provide strategic leadership for billing operations across multiple locations of a leading professional services firm. This senior role oversees a team of roughly 30 billing professionals, drives process improvements, and ensures alignment with revenue‑cycle objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all billing operations, guaranteeing accurate and timely invoice generation.
• Supervise Billing Managers and a team of ~30 specialists, setting performance metrics and service standards.
• Develop, implement, and maintain billing policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Manage staffing, workflow allocation, and resource planning for the billing department.
• Oversee electronic billing platforms, vendor relationships, and e‑billing implementations.
• Resolve invoice rejections, disputes, and short‑pay situations while ensuring compliance with client billing guidelines.
• Partner with Accounts Receivable and Client Support to improve collections and reduce outstanding balances.
• Collaborate with Finance, IT, and HR on system issues, automation initiatives, and workforce management.
• Mentor and develop Billing Managers and Supervisors, conducting performance evaluations and succession planning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in billing operations within a complex, fast‑paced environment.
• Proven leadership of large billing teams and remote workforces.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, interacting with finance, IT, HR, and senior executives.
• Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements, automation, and technology adoption.
• Excellent analytical skills for reviewing month‑end billing reports and operational metrics.
