Architect – Civic & Justice (Public Sector)

About the role

Nelson is seeking a motivated, team‑oriented Architect to join its Civic & Justice practice. You will lead multiple projects from concept through construction administration, delivering high‑quality design and construction documents for public‑sector facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design phases including programming, master planning, schematic and design development.
• Produce 3D models and detailed construction documents (CD) and oversee construction administration (CA).
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal team members throughout each project.
• Develop technical solutions, manage project budgets and schedules, and ensure compliance with building codes, life‑safety, and ADA requirements.

Required profile

• Licensed architect in at least one U.S. state.
• Demonstrated experience designing correctional facilities, detention centers, courthouses, public‑safety buildings, or municipal structures.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop or Revit.
• Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Bluebeam Revu.
• Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and SketchUp.
• Familiarity with LEED and WELL building standards.
