Architect – Civic & Justice

About the role

Nelson is seeking a motivated Architect to lead civic and justice projects, guiding them from concept through construction administration. The role involves design development, production of construction documents, and coordination with clients, consultants, and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design phases including programming, master planning, schematic, design development, and construction documentation.
• Prepare and oversee project deliverables such as drawings, specifications, addenda, and shop drawing reviews.
• Conduct field surveys, coordinate consultants, and manage construction meetings and site observations.
• Mentor staff and interns, share knowledge across the studio, and contribute to business development activities.

Required profile

• Architectural license in at least one U.S. state.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in civic and justice facilities (e.g., courthouses, correctional facilities, public safety buildings).
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited university.
• Ability to manage high billable utilization (90‑95%).

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop or Revit.
• Experience with Bluebeam Revu, MS Office suite, and project management tools (MS Project, Newforma, Deltek Vantagepoint).
• Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and LEED/Well standards.
• Strong understanding of building codes, life‑safety, ADA requirements, and construction processes.
