Substation Electrical Engineer - Power

About the role

Ulteig is looking for a Substation Electrical Engineer to support Renewables, Utility and Power projects. The engineer acts as a technical leader, applying standard engineering techniques and procedures on complex projects and planning, scheduling and coordinating the detailed phases of assigned work. Resumes must be submitted in English.

Key responsibilities

• Makes design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations, relay automation equipment and associated drawings.
• Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
• Provides technical guidance to other engineers.
• May take on special projects, assist colleagues or support new initiatives.
• Reviews and produces design drawings such as one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel elevations.
• Performs AC and DC substation studies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; master's degree a plus.
• ABET-accredited program or equivalent (CFIA).
• CFIA professional licensure.
• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• Legal authorization to work in Costa Rica.
• Proven experience leading complex substation projects with a multidiscipline team, from estimating and proposals through detailed design to commissioning and construction support.

Required skills

• Proficiency in substation protection and control design and industry standards.
• Knowledge of substation electrical apparatus and basic relay settings (a plus).
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) (a plus).
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Openness to applying evolving technology and AI tools to improve workflows.
