Shift Manager

About the role

APM Terminals is seeking a Shift Manager to lead the operational execution of its terminal shift. The role ensures that work schedules, vessel plans and deadlines are met while driving continuous improvement through lean methodologies.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate operational execution, ensuring work schedules, vessel plans and deadlines are achieved.
• Act as the primary point of contact for operational planning, using advanced TOS/N4 systems.
• Review shift plans, anticipate risks and align the operational team on goals and adjustments.
• Identify improvement opportunities, document best practices and support ongoing lean initiatives.
• Monitor KPIs such as productivity, vessel turnaround times and resource utilization to drive improvements.
• Ensure terminal operations follow safety standards, operational guidelines and quality practices (including SQDC, deviation management and post‑mortem reviews).
• Lead and support operators through coaching, feedback and performance improvement plans.
• Allocate resources efficiently, optimizing equipment and workforce usage across the shift.
• Collaborate closely with Maintenance to secure equipment readiness and availability.
• Respond to emergencies, asset damage or operational disruptions as the first line of escalation.
• Maintain high visibility across the terminal, overseeing quay, yard and support operations.
• Prepare accurate operational reports and conduct structured shift handovers (hot‑seat process).

Required profile

• Proven experience in terminal or port operations.
• Strong leadership and coaching abilities.
• Ability to anticipate risks, align teams and drive continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with safety, quality and operational standards (SQDC, deviation management).
• Experience in emergency response and escalation procedures.

Required skills

• Advanced use of TOS/N4 terminal operating system
