Senior AWS Cloud Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join our cloud operations team. You will own the reliability, governance and automation of a large AWS estate, working closely with DevOps, security and application teams in an Agile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy and maintain scalable, highly‑available AWS infrastructure using Terraform and AWS CDK, following tagging and cost‑governance standards.
• Manage end‑to‑end backup strategies with AWS Backup, monitor job completion, resolve VSS/snapshot inconsistencies and validate restore points to meet RPO/RTO targets.
• Govern AWS Systems Manager (SSM) codebase, including runbook versioning, patch baseline testing and multi‑account automation.
• Drive continuous cost optimisation by authoring Cloud Custodian policies, performing dry‑run validation and automatically cleaning orphaned resources such as unattached EBS volumes, stale AMIs and idle EC2 instances.
• Monitor large‑scale EC2 fleet health using CloudWatch dashboards, alarms and metric analysis, and coordinate incident resolution with application teams.
• Partner with security and compliance teams to enforce guardrails via AWS Config rules, Service Control Policies and Cloud Custodian, ensuring adherence to CIS benchmarks and regulations (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI‑DSS).

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience with AWS services and large‑scale cloud environments.
• Strong Python programming skills and proven expertise in Infrastructure‑as‑Code.
• Proactive problem‑solver comfortable in fast‑paced Agile delivery.
• Excellent collaboration skills with cross‑functional DevOps, security and application teams.
