Renewables Electrical Senior Engineer

About the role

The Renewables Electrical Senior Engineer will lead the electrical design and technical delivery of wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Acting as a technical leader, you will coordinate with internal teams, external partners and clients to ensure high‑quality, compliant solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review electrical designs, including one‑line diagrams, grounding, protection schemes and cable sizing for wind and BESS projects.
• Lead technical aspects of projects, collaborating with engineers, vendors and clients to achieve project success.
• Perform electrical studies such as cable ampacity, energy loss, short‑circuit, protection coordination and grounding analysis.
• Prepare technical specifications for transformers, switchgear, inverters and battery equipment.
• Provide engineering support during procurement, construction and commissioning, including field inspections and troubleshooting.
• Conduct technical reviews, enforce quality control and ensure designs meet NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC and other applicable codes.
• Participate in client meetings, present technical information and support proposal development.
• Research emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• Professional engineering license (CFIA, PE, P.Eng) with at least 12 years of electrical project design experience.
• 15+ years of experience in renewable energy, power systems or a related industry is preferred.
• Proven experience leading projects and technical teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electrical engineering software such as ETAP, Easypower, PSCAD, CYME and AutoCAD.
• Ability to perform AC and DC studies, cable ampacity, short‑circuit, protection coordination and grounding analyses.
• Strong knowledge of wind energy systems and battery energy storage technologies.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NESC).
