Lead Substation Electrical Engineer

About the role

Ulteig is seeking a Lead Substation Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership on renewable‑energy and utility power projects. The role involves guiding multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle, from estimating and proposal development to detailed design, construction support, and energization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications for utility substations and relay automation equipment.
• Perform engineering calculations and produce detailed design drawings, including one‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations.
• Lead complex substation projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams from concept to commissioning.
• Conduct AC & DC substation studies and review relay settings.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Support on‑site commissioning and construction activities as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET‑accredited); Master’s degree is a plus.
• CFIA professional licensure.
• Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in substation design and power systems.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Excellent communication, time‑management, and organizational skills.

Required skills

• Substation protection and control design.
• Familiarity with industry standards: NESC, RUS design guide, IEEE, IEC, NEC.
• Creation and review of design drawings (one‑line, schematics, wiring, panel elevations).
• AC & DC substation studies.
• Knowledge of substation apparatus and basic relay settings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
