Hardware Design Engineer / PCB Designer

About the role

Join Joby’s fast‑growing aerospace team to design, test, and bring‑up electronic equipment for our vertical‑takeoff air‑taxi. You will work on high‑performance, reliable hardware that powers the next generation of urban air mobility.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and validate electronic hardware according to defined specifications.
• Develop and execute hardware‑in‑the‑loop test software.
• Lead component and PCB layout decisions, selecting parts and ECAD tools.
• Support electrical system architecture trade studies and perform load and thermal analyses.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure design meets reliability, EMI, and harsh‑environment requirements.

Required profile

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in aerospace, automotive, or medical hardware design.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of designs.

Required skills

• Power conversion (linear and switching regulators).
• High‑speed digital design and layout.
• Signal conditioning and conversion (ADCs, filters).
• Discrete semiconductor design (FETs, BJTs, diodes).
• Schematic capture and PCB design (Altium Designer).
• Electrical component selection and hands‑on hardware debugging.
• Design‑for‑reliability methods (DFMEA, fault trees).
• Design for high EMI and harsh‑environment reliability.
• MCAD tools (CATIA, Autodesk, SolidWorks).
• Embedded Linux, Python, and C++ programming.
