Facilities Engineer I

About the role

Abbott is seeking a Facilities Engineer I to join its Vascular division in Alajuela, Coyol. The role focuses on maintaining and improving the plant’s mechanical, electrical, and utility systems to support the production of innovative medical devices.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other installed systems.
• Monitor facility system performance and manage preventive‑maintenance contracts.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on infrastructure projects and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Conduct regular facility inspections and generate condition reports.
• Assist with basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing troubleshooting and repairs.
• Prepare summary reports and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• At least 80% completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electromechanical or Maintenance Engineering.
• Minimum 1 year of related facilities or maintenance experience.
• Intermediate proficiency in English.

Required skills

• HVAC systems knowledge.
• Air compressor operation and maintenance.
• Potable water and RODI (Reverse Osmosis Deionization) systems.
• Basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing repair skills.
• Familiarity with OSHA, ISO standards and GMP requirements.
• Understanding of medical‑industry controlled environments.
