Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist I

About the role

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I will support Abbott's Vascular division in Alajuela, ensuring compliance with local EHS regulations and promoting a safe, sustainable manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain procedures to meet all applicable local EHS laws.
• Inspect facilities, identify hazards, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain training and certification records for personnel handling chemicals, air, water, waste and emergency response.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to address manufacturing issues, suggest waste‑reduction measures, and recommend policy corrections.
• Prepare Change Requests and Work Order Notifications to update documents or processes.
• Sustain and improve the AVCR Environmental Management System.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field (or equivalent diploma).
• At least 1 year of experience in EHS or related areas.
• Intermediate proficiency in English.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements; ISO 14001 Internal/Leader Auditor certification is a plus.
